During my stay at Cambria Hotels & Suites – (Catch the first two recaps here and here.) I wanted to make sure that I took a full day to enjoy parts of the city that I’d neglected over the last few years, one of those being Union Market. In all my time in DC, I’d never actually spent real time exploring all that Union Market had to offer. Sure, I grabbed a drink before an event at Dock5 a few years ago but I’d never spent any real time enjoying everything it had to offer.
Before venturing out for a full day exploring and eating our way through Union Market, we figured it best to take full advantage of Cambria’s Fitness Center. It sits next to their indoor pool on the rooftop and is enclosed by windows on all sides so you’re not sacrificing any of those amazing views! It’s also open 24-hours which was a huge perk since we wanted to get our workout in earlier than normal so we could get in a full day of adventure.
It was super easy to keep up with my current training routine thanks to the wide range of machines that lined the windows. After coming back from a knee injury, my updated regimen includes warming up and down with a leg press which I was pleasantly surprised to find in the Fitness Center. It also has a wide variety of free weights (my favorite!) which is not always an option at other hotels.
After a quick warm down in the pool, we got ready, grabbed a to-go coffee at the buffet and headed out to NoMa.
I’d never experienced the Little Leaf Shop before so that’s where we started. Three minutes and $150 later, I was content. I’ve recently become completely obsessed with filling my new home with as much greenery as I can without it looking like a botanical garden and with the incredibly reasonable prices at this shop, I’ll definitely be circling back next time I’m in town. I’d also never stopped into Salt & Sundry on 14th (apparently, I’d been living under a rock) so that’s where we went next. I made three laps around the shop and grabbed new items each time. That store is filled with such great home decor it was hard to leave with just a few things. I grabbed the essentials for my new kitchen and a few unnecessary extras that go the extra mile in making it feel super cozy.
After indulging in more shopping than we planned for, we decided to map out the rest of the afternoon over market seafood. We started off with a basket of deliciousness from The DC Fish Wife and ended with 2 dozen oysters from the Rappahannock Oyster Bar. My mission over those three days was to enjoy as much local seafood as possible and we hit the jackpot here!
After enjoying a few more bites outside and playing a quick game of bags, we jumped in an Uber and headed back to Cambria. We hung out in our room to unwind for an hour or two before heading to dinner downtown at Old Ebbit.
“A few hours” and an incredibly comfy bed turned into a movie marathon, running out to get a few pies from &pizza and ordering a bottle of Veuve to the room. The concierge desk was kind enough to deliver the bottle to our room once it arrived which we took full advantage of during our lazy night in. Don’t worry, we absolutely hit Old Ebbit the next day!
