Day 28 as a Chicago resident and it’s felt like home from the beginning 🖤⁣

When I left DC three years ago, I wasn’t sure where I’d end up. I love DC but it no longer felt right. I needed change. I needed a challenge. I wanted an adventure. The plan was Door County for 6 months then on to Denver 🏞 or Seattle or Boston. Life happened (as it does), plans changed, and I found myself in a place I felt lost - not in a good way. ⁣
⁣
Being in that space over the past few years was invaluable. I was able to experience a part of myself I’m not sure I would have tapped into unless I’d put myself in a place like that. Ultimately, I realized - what I had maybe known all along but needed to work it out in real time - that I felt most at home in a city 🌃⁣

Back in 2017, Chicago was on the shortlist along with Denver and the others. Chicago was 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 the plan right after graduating from IU but again - life. Throughout the past decade, I’d toyed with the idea of taking up residence in the Windy City but would arrive at the same conclusion: it was too safe. My dad’s family is from Chicago, lots of friends from IU ❤️ live in the city, and it would be too safe of a choice. Ironically, it’s those same reasons I kept rejecting this city for so long that helped me in my decision to move here now. ⁣

I have pushed myself to breaking points many times over the last year alone. For the first time in a long time, to be in a space that is completely my own, in a city I’ve always loved feels overwhelmingly right. Even if they AC has broken twice, there’s massive water damage in the bathroom, and the power goes out every now and then 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️⁣

Confession: I’ve been wearing the same blank tank for the past 8 years. Like - this one, single black tank. Yes, you read that right 🙈⁣

It was a thoughtless purchase from an @anntaylor sale to fill the essential black sleeveless tank void in my wardrobe. It turned out to be one of my most worn items and one I wished I’d purchased in bulk 💸⁣
