We Moved!

We moved! If you follow me on Instagram, you know that a few weeks back we loaded up the dogs and moved a whole 20 miles south of where we had been living the past year. We’re still on the peninsula but we’re a little closer to Sturgeon Bay and in a space that better meets our needs.

I almost feel like this little move was harder than the one I made from DC last June. When I left DC, I sold most of my furniture and only brought out what I could fit in my SUV – It was a major cleansing moment. This time, we just kinda tossed stuff in boxes and shlepped everything over which almost made it more difficult since there was no decluttering process. Hoping I’ll get to that at some point in the unpacking process…

In the meantime, we’re celebrating a new place with a lot more space and a few new bottles of wine, thanks to Winc.

Winc is a monthly wine service that sends customized selections straight to your door. You take a 6 question quiz that helps assess your tastes, the site spits out customized recommendations based on the information you entered, and your bottles are delivered a few days later!

Not a fan of the selection that was chosen? You can edit your picks at any point – like I did! I had my sights set on a particular Field Theory wine so I swapped out a red and added it to my list!

What I ended up with in this month’s box:

2017 Finke’s Sparking White Blend

Bright, Bubbly, Crisp

2017 Summer Water Rose

Easy Drinking, Vibrant, Crisp

2016 Field Theory Touring Nacional

Light, Fruity, Small batch

I know little to nothing about wine. I buy bottles based on branding, almost exclusively, which is why I love that Winc gives a quick rundown of the flavor profile, gives food pairing suggestions, and suggests additional bottles based on the wines you choose. This way, I get to learn a little more about wine, one bottle at a time, and I can impress house guests with my vast knowledge of the 20 bottles in our wine rack.

Right now, all District Sparkle readers will receive their first 4 bottles for $40! Try Winc for yourself!

Since the move, I’ve gotten a ton of questions – mostly about if we ended up buying after that fiasco last February or if we’re still renting. I’m answering the most asked questions, below!

Why did you move (again)? Initially, I was in that home alone. It was the best option I could find when I moved up here by myself last year and I jumped at the chance. Eventually, I met a guy, he moved in, and at the end of the day there just wasn’t enough space for both of us, the dogs, and enough space to run a business from home. It was a great starter place for us but we were living in a sardine can. No bueno. Can anyone relate? So, when our current place became available it was a no brainer.

Did you buy your new place? No. We’re still renting.

Are you still interested in buying? Yes. We’re actually interested in buying the place we’re currently renting. More on that to come as we navigate our way through.

Will you be sharing a home tour? Yes! We’ve shot the living room, bedroom, and my office. Those will be published separately sometime in September. Hoping to shoot the guest rooms and kitchen over the holidays!

Can you share home decor posts? Absolutely. I won’t publish blog posts until the space is better set up (we’re still living out of boxes) but you can always catch the more candid stuff on my Instagram + Instastories.

Product was gifted for review. All opinions are my own.

I’m fairly new to District Sparkle, but I wanted to let you know how awesome I think your blog is, and how funny it is that I was moving from Door County to DC around the same time you moved from DC to Door County. I vacationed on the peninsula for many years growing up and lived there for two summers working for Door Shakespeare. It’s one of my favorite places on earth but found myself feeling isolated from civilization when I lived up there for an extended period of time. I got a job in DC and had a 7 month stint there (I currently live in Chicago) but I relate to your feeling of wanting to be in a place that makes you happy—it’s something I’m currently struggling with. I appreciate how open you are in all your posts, and I can’t wait to see pics of the new house! :)

Claire – thank you so much for sharing this! There are some days I wake up super empowered and motivated by this community and other days it’s hard to believe that anyone other than my grandpa is reading. It’s incredible that you’re making moves (both physically and emotionally, I’m sure) to figure out where you want to be right now. I’m so happy to be able to facilitate a space where women who may be going through similar things in life can come together to discuss or ask for advice. Welcome to District Sparkle!
