Rainy days during the second week of a government shutdown means one thing: Comfort.

At some point, you’re going to get wet — Whether you’re splashed by dirty street water from a cab that cut it a little too close, you slip on the Metro escalators & fall straight on your bum leaving wet imprints of the escalator pattern on your wool skirt, or you get those infuriating droplets from your umbrella that somehow always find you & your leather bag. There’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable & soggy in your 9-5 attire during your treacherous rainy day commute so eliminate the factor you can control early on. Wear pieces you feel your best in [other than pjs], bring on the layers [chunky knits & raincoats], & for goodness sake, invest in a pair of rain boots. Instead of selling my soul for a pair of Hunter’s I stalked Gilt & snagged a pair once the sale went live so keep an eye out for those suckers. & shop a few of my rainy day favorites below.

It surprises me how few people here in DC wear their rainboots to work…so glad you’re one of the practical ones! I’m guilty of feeling like they look too ridiculous with pencil skirts, but might need to cave for practicality’s sake!

Ridiculous or not, I hate getting to work with went pantaloons. Plus, I tend to get REALLY hot when I wear these boots so pairing them with a skirt is a welcomed relief :)

I always get shocked expressions from people when I wear a skirt in the rain with Hunters, but it is so easy to stop by the rest room and take a paper towel to wet legs. Poof! Instant dryness! That doesn’t happen with wet pants :)

You literally took the words out of my brain. Pants or skirts are just fine on a rainy day but hot mess that I am, I always end up getting soaked no matter what I wear. It’s far easier to dry off bare legs then tapered straight leg wool pants. Bleh.

& this one is soo comfy. It’s been on daily, er semi weekly repeat since it arrived. Super reasonable price point + super soft & comfy = major sartorial score.

Love this look! I ordered that skirt and wanted to love it so badly, but sadly it didn’t fit right. It looks great on you though!

Well aren’t you just the sweetest pearl loving diva face out there. Thank you! It 100% did not fit the way I had imagined – it’s super slim- I assume if I lay off the mac & cheese for a little while it should fit better :)

It may be time for a pair of rain boots for me, too? I just LOVE my heels too much not to wear them… but I LOVE them too much to so easily ruin them, too. What’s a girl to do?

    BTW… I ADORE your skirt!

I put my heels in a dust bag & toss them in my purse so they’re semi protected from the torrential downpours we have here. Then I’m free to romp around & splash in puddles. My advice is to invest in a good pair of boots that you can splash around in. It’s so empowering to slosh through puddles. Take that, rain.

Love the glasses and the statement lip hue — so perfect for work, and such a great way to spice up the neutral sweater!

WOW I love your Outfit, it looks really comfortable and your Hunter Wellingtons look really cool, perfect footwear in the rain.

haha, i totally got my hunters on gilt, too. it’s a rare occasion i get to use them in hawaii, so i couldn’t justify paying full price for them! i love them paired with the sweater and skirt…and how cute is that umbrella?!

I love the colorblocking on this sweater. It looks really cute. I keep thinking maybe I should get those Hunters because I need rainboots so badly and it’s hard to find a good pair. I wonder how they would hold up in the snow…

I add the liners to my Hunters in the snow [they tend to get super cold] & I’m free to romp & make snow angels ’til my little heart’s content. The only issue I’ve experienced is the traction isn’t GREAT – I’ve never falled but I’ve had a few close calls in the snow & ice.
