The good Lord blessed me with many things. Interior design skills was not one of them.
From apartment to apartment, I’ve lived in spaces with hand-me-down furniture, thrifty Eastern Market finds and major HomeGoods scores. While I love a good weekend find, I was ready for a more cohesive bedroom space. A simple, clean space that I could comfortably hole up in for a Netflix marathon or work on coding well into the night. With 29 on the horizon, it was high time I spent the time and money on creating a space that really felt like my own. Unfortunately, my Pinterest-to-reality skills are lacking which is where Havenly comes in.

Havenly is an online interior design company that matches customers with designers to help turn their visions into concepts and then reality. Early on in the process, I was matched with Stafford who absolutely nailed the vibe I was going for. Even at times when I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted, she was there with suggestions which made choosing a theme much easier than I had imagined. After being paired with your designer, you spend some time chatting about your vision, the vibe you’re going for, and what you’re willing to spend on your space. You upload room dimensions, furniture you already own and are interesting in keeping, and every piece of Pinspiration you can find. There’s also a narrative section where you can ramble on about how you think you know what you want but really have no idea, you’d like to try and make the designated dog crate corner of the room as chic as possible, and how hellbent you are on getting a nail-trim, tufted, winged headboard in your space. After reviewing all of this information and answering 800 of my questions, Stafford sent me the two concepts below to choose from:
I went with the second, made a few minor adjustments and ended up with this final design:
The best part of this Havenly design process is that they take the creative worry out of it. I really struggle with finding pieces I absolutely love and ones that mesh well together and I was tired of living in a space that felt jumbled all the time. I was really pleased with how well Stafford understood exactly what I wanted out of the space and I’m thrilled to finally come home to a little nook I feel 100% me in 100% of the time!
